The PC Clusters are provided to support the academic activity of any member of Newcastle University.
All clusters run a core set of software. A number of specialist applications (e.g. CAD) are provided on certain clusters to support the requirements of some courses.
Cluster locations can be viewed on the ISS Cluster map.
Clusters are available across the campus and in the Castle Leazes, Henderson Hall, and Leazes Terrace student residences, they locations can also be found on the Connect website locations map (note the click-boxes and the location selections below the map to modify your search). The Clusters pages provide more detailed information.
Up to the minute Cluster Availability is available on any device by visiting http://m.ncl.ac.uk
This will show how many free seats are available in each location and whether it is booked for teaching at the moment, or will be within the next 60 minutes.
Most clusters close at the same time as the building where they are located. However a number are open for extended hours, e.g. those in the Robinson Library. The Bedson Cluster room and Medical School cluster room are open 24/7, via Smartcard access
A list of the software installed on the ISS Cluster PC's can be found by going to the ISS Software Page
All remaining Windows XP clusters have now been upgraded to Windows 7. Please see the Windows 7 Cluster Changes page for details of what has changed
Most cluster services (e.g. your filestore and most PC core software) are accessible from any computer, anywhere, via RAS, which is popular with many students using their own computer, whether at home or connected to the campus network.
