ReCap

ReCap is a "media acquisition and publishing management system". It is designed to meet the lecture capture needs of an entire university, whilst having minimal impact on staff and their delivery of lectures by being unobtrusive and requiring minimal IT knowledge to operate.

The ReCap service is driven by the Lectopia system.

How it works

ReCap records a lecture and then publishes it online, so that students can re-visit lectures whenever they need. Video (i.e. filming) is not implemented, but all materials (the audio, and all other materials including screen captures, images from document cameras, etc.) are captured with the lecture itself.

ReCap at Newcastle

Newcastle University, in conjunction with the CETL4HealthNE collaboration is the first major installation of ReCap in the UK. ISS's Audio Visual Services and Development are involved in the installation and integration of the ReCap system with the existing Audio Visual facilities in venues. AVSD are also responsible for the scheduling and monitoring of recordings.

Currently we have eighteen venues fully ReCap-enabled at the Newcastle University and two solo rooms which allow individual lecturers to practise using the system, or to record material in the absence of a student audience.
