Changing password

The UNIX system now uses the same passwords as the main ISS facilities (known as "the Windows account"). If you have a Windows account as well as a UNIX account (most do) then you should use this password to access the UNIX facilities.

If you have forgotten your Windows password or need to change it, please see How do I change my password?.

If you know you have a separate UNIX account password from your Windows account (I.e. you have had a UNIX account for more than a year) and you are concerned that someone knows your UNIX password, please contact ISS helpdesk (see the box on the left hand side of this page), indicating to them that your UNIX password may have been compromised.

If you do not have a Windows account and you need to change your UNIX password, please contact the IT Service Desk to arrange having a Windows account created for you.

Please note that historically, it was possible to set your UNIX password using the passwd command. This is not currently available.
