Corporate Publishing

The main corporate site www.ncl.ac.uk is available to all academic units (faculties, schools and research institutes), all service units and official research Institutes and centers. The site is designed to enable the delivery of marketing activities, the promotion of key messages and support for the University’s engagement agenda. The web site is designed to support the strategic objectives of the University and help academic units and support services to carry out their functions. Corporate Web Development (based in the Marketing and Communications Directorate) manage the www.ncl.ac.uk domain and are responsible for the structure, design, quality standards, support and coordination of all publishers to the www.ncl.ac.uk domain. Ownership of content on academic and service unit web sites is the responsibility of Heads of Unit and delegated Web Editors. The hosting maintenance and technical function of the site are the responsibility of ISS.

To support publishing of content not suited to www.ncl.ac.uk there are a variety of support sites research.ncl.ac.uk for hosting research information, conferences.ncl.ac.uk for hosting conference information, teaching.ncl.ac.uk for hosting teaching information (where use of a Virtual Learning Environment is not appropriate), internal.ncl.ac.uk for hosting internal intranet style content and a domain hosting service for projects that require their own domain name e.g. multi institute collaborative projects.

Personal Publishing

Staff Web sites:
Staff personal web sites (www.staff.ncl.ac.uk) are provided as an informal publishing platform for members of University staff. This platform is not provided as a business critical service, and as such, should not be used for the hosting of teaching materials as their availability cannot be guaranteed at an appropriately high level. Staff sites will be published at: www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/email.address/

Student and society web sites:
All staff, students and societies at the University can publish their own web site. Personal web publishing is primarily intended as a 'hosting only' service, although support and advice will be provided to personal publishers via the ISS Helpdesk (it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk@ncl.ac.uk) where possible. Student sites will be published at: www.student.ncl.ac.uk/email.address/ Society sites will be published at: www.societies.ncl.ac.uk/societyname/
