Each year, Newcastle University plays a significant role in organising or hosting a number conferences. We provide a web hosting facility for these on a virtual server at http://conferences.ncl.ac.uk/.
Please note that this service is only available to staff at Newcastle University.
Before applying, please ensure that you have fully read the following points to ensure that your request is as complete and accurate as possible. This will avoid undue delays in the application process.
Please email webmaster@ncl.ac.uk with full details of your request including:
If your request is approved, you will be asked to complete a registration form for a Unix login id. This can be obtained from ISS Registration. It is not possible to use a personal id for this service.
Note that it takes around 24 hours before a Unix account becomes active and may take longer at the beginning of the academic year.
Once the Unix account has been set up, we will create a directory (folder) called public_html in your Unix file space to hold your web pages (if you have already set up this directory, it will remain unchanged), set the correct directory permissions and set up your web server.
SFTP (not FTP) should be used to upload files. When completing your connection details, the host name to use is hostedpublishing.ncl.ac.uk.
All content hosted on the University web servers must adhere to the guidelines and rules of use.
