MySQL (an open source relational database management system) is provided and supported for use in web/database applications. It is available to anyone publishing on the University site, including the staff, student and society web servers.
Further information about the provision of MySQL databases at Newcastle University is available, including how to register. To help administer your database, we also provide and support phpMyAdmin.
If you have particularly large database requirements, please contact webmaster@ncl.ac.uk to discuss them, as inappropriate use of your database may result in it being disabled. This includes extreme process overloads as a result of excessive or complicated queries (however, we have yet to experience a situation that has warranted this action).
