Shibboleth can be used to limit access to folders/specific sites on the web, in order to allow collaboration or retain knowledge within a certain user base.
Specific filtering of users (e.g. users in a specific research group) is possible using Shibboleth; alternatively, access could be restricted to users from Newcastle University (if the content of the page related only to Newcastle users, for example).
Aside from protecting directories and pages, Shibboleth provides variables which can be used to speed up form entry etc. (see the examples page)
Shibboleth restricts access to web sites, based on the user list provided when requesting Shibboleth support. However, the content on these pages is still required to comply with the University's Web Publishing Guidelines.
ISS will monitor protected folders/pages regularly. If any breaches of the guidelines are found, the principle user associated with the site will be contacted and, if the breach is not rectified, the site may be blocked without warning.
