Your computer login name

Notification

Before you came to the University you received a letter and/or email from the Student Progress Service, in which you were notified of your Login Name and password (you will have used these to login to the OWA email service).

Note that a "login name" may also be referred to as "computer ID", "user name", "identifier", etc, depending on the system (or the person) that you are dealing with.

University Login Name

A student's Login Name is the letter “a” followed by the middle seven digits of the Student Number. For example:

A Student Smartcard with Student ID highlighted

The Student Number here is 071234567 and so the Login Name is a7123456

Passwords

You have two passwords: one is used for Windows-based services, and it is used for almost everything you do at the University. This is often referred to as "the Windows password".

The other password is used only for the Student Self Service Portal and is referred to as the “S3P password”. S3P is used for academic self-management, such as pre-registration, and choosing your modules for next year.

Forgotten password?

(Are you sure? Check the the ISS Tip "It won't let me login" first.)

If you’ve forgotten your Windows password you will need to come to ISS to have it re-set (and then you’ll need to change it again yourself so that you can be assured that nobody else knows it).

To have it re-set, go to one of the help and advice locations.

For advice on changing your password, see this ISS "Tip".
