In Summer 2012 we are moving Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught email to Office365 hosted by Microsoft.
Information about Office365 can be found here
All new students will be provisioned with an Office 365 mailbox
Access your mailbox using a web-browser using the following URL: http://office365.ncl.ac.uk (Note: This is a friendly alias for the proper URL: https://outlook.com/owa/newcastle.ac.uk)
Between June 16th and August 1st, we aim to migrate your mailbox to Office365. We will contact you a few days before moving your mailbox, but we appreciate you may not be reading your email during the summer break. It is therefore important that you take note of the new method of accessing your University mailbox.
All of your mailbox content will automatically be transferred to the new Office365 mailbox. Each individual mailbox move should take 20-30 minutes and all incoming email will be queued whilst it takes place. We will endeavour to move mailboxes outside of working hours, however as there are over 10,000 and a small window to move them, we may have to adjust those hours of operation.
Your migrated mailbox can be found using a web-browser using the following URL: http://office365.ncl.ac.uk (Note: This is a friendly alias for the proper URL: https://outlook.com/owa/newcastle.ac.uk)
You will continue to use your University ID and password to access the new system.
If you have tried to log on to Outlook Web Access (owa.ncl.ac.uk) and your mailbox has already been moved, you will receive the following screen:
Click on the link to be redirected to the new logon interface.
Unfortunately mobile devices aren't able to notify that your mailbox has moved. You can reconfigure your phone with instructions found here: Office365 and Mobile devices
For Postgraduate Taught students whose study was during academic year 2011/2012, their email will remain on the existing OWA service, unless their studies continue into academic year 2012/2013. At which stage we will look to migrate the mailbox to Office365.
