Videoconferencing allows people to communicate and collaborate in multiple locations in real time and can be used for many purposes within Higher Education including meetings, teaching, collaborative research and interviews.

Benefits of using videoconferencing includes reducing travel expenses, saving time and reducing an institutions carbon footprint

 

There are three main types of videoconferencing solutions available:-

  1. Hardware videoconferencing via dedicated managed videoconferencing suites provide a reliable and high quality experience and are generally  the preferred option for formal and high-stakes meeting
  2. Software videoconferencing (also known as desktop or web conferencing) using software  such as Lync, Skype and Adobe Connect provide flexible videoconferencing solutions using standard hardware and internet technology
  3. Teleconferencing is an easy to use and reliable alternative where video is not required or there are potential bandwidth concerns
