Changing your Password

Which password?

Students have two passwords for use with their University Login Name:

  • one is only for S3P Student Self Service Portal;
  • the other main Windows password is used for almost all other University computer services: Cluster PCs, University email, Internet & wireless, Blackboard, Library systems, etc.

To change your main Windows password

  1. Login to a University cluster or quick access PC

  2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del (bottom right) together.

  3. Select the option to change your password.

Choosing a good password

Use a minimum of at least 8 characters and include at least one UPPERCASE and one lowercase letter and at least one number.

Don't use your own name or your date of birth and avoid punctuation characters (, ; & ^ ) as they may not work on all University IT services.

Tip

Think of a phrase of eight words (or more) which contains at least one upper case (capital) letter and at least one number, and then use the initial letters of the phrase. For example:

“My black cat Whiskers is 9 years old” = MbcWi9yo
"I was born in Buenos Aires in 1987" = IwbiBAi87
“Alan Shearer scored 2 penalties against Man U” = ASs2paMU
"That boy with glasses and ginger hair is the one for me" = Tbwgaghi14me
