The Guest Wireless Service provides Internet access to short-term visitors and delegates to University-hosted conferences who want to use their own computer to connect the internet. The service is provided free of charge, is simple to use and requires no configuration changes to the visitor’s computer. It does not provide access to University PCs or services.
Short term visitor accounts are created by trusted personnel within schools. This will usually be your local IT Officer or some other authorised person within your school. Please contact your appropriate IT Officer in the first instance. Individual accounts will be created with an expiry date (up to a maximum of 4 weeks access). Staff should make every effort to ensure short term visitor accounts have a valid purpose and only one account is assigned per visiting member of staff.
IT Officers should contact the IT Service Desk to request the ability to create short term visitor accounts. Once access is granted, you will be assigned to a guest access team within your school. You can then login on the Connect web site and click on the Guest Access tab to create accounts for short term visitors.
Conference delegate accounts are created by appropriate event organisers. Individual voucher codes can be produced in bulk and handed out to conference delegates allowing access to the Internet for a fixed period of time (up to a maximum of 120 hours from the time the voucher is first used). For events in the Beehive, please contact Doreen Boddy or Debbie Vincent on (0191 222) 5220. You can contact the Conference Office Team for all other venues, via email at conference-team@ncl.ac.uk or telephone on (0191 222) 6296, 6318 or 8306. Please see the Conference Office pages for contact details and the full range of services the Conference Office can offer.
Visitors and delegates should simply connect their device to the open wireless network newcastle-uni-guest and open a web browser. They will be automatically redirected to the Newcastle University Guest Access Portal login page where they should enter their short term visitor credentials or a voucher code.
