Visitors can connect using the Guest Wireless service or from the EduRoam service.
The Guest Wireless Service provides Internet access to short-term visitors and delegates to University-hosted conferences, who want to use their own computer to connect to the Internet.
Short term visitor accounts are created by trusted personnel within schools (usually your local IT officer).
Conference delegate accounts are generated by event organisers which can then be handed out to delegates granting short term Internet access without the need to create individual credentials.
For more information see the Guest Wireless Service page.
Newcastle University is a member of the JANET Roaming Service (JRS) which is part of the international roaming service EduRoam. Visiting academics from participating institutions can use EduRoam over wireless to login at Newcastle using their local Login Name and Password.
Windows PC users can download and run the Campus Network Setup program.
or you can use the instructions on the EduRoam pages.
To help maintain the security and integrity of the campus network users need to authenticate to gain access to the network, you should also use updated anti-virus software and take some common sense security precautions when online.
All staff and visitors must follow the local Rules of Use for computing facilities, this includes using security software and secure protocols to avoid computer viruses.
