Outlook Anywhere

If you are a staff member or PGR student and use Outlook 2007/2010 on a laptop, Outlook Anywhere gives access to your Exchange mailbox as if you were on campus. To configure Outlook Anywhere:

NB. It is worth configuring Outlook Anywhere from on campus, otherwise you will notice authentication time outs and an extended period of time whilst the offline cache is created. If you create your offline cache from off campus, then there will be a significant amount of data required to be downloaded (roughly the size of your mailbox) Be careful of this if you have a internet plan that has fixed monthly bandwidth limits.

Outlook 2007

  • In Outlook, select Tools from the menu.
  • Select Account Settings.
  • Select the Exchange account and click the Change button.

Outlook 2010

  • In Outlook, clickb
  • Select Account Settings - Account Settings
  • Select the Exchange account and click the Change button.

Ensure your server address is excasarray.ncl.ac.uk

Put a tick in the "Use Cached Exchange Mode" box. This creates an offline version of your Exchange mailbox (.OST file) on the computer that you are using. Click More Settings. A warning will pop up to say that this change will only become apparent when Outlook is restarted.

Click the Connection Tab and put a tick in the "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" box.

Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button

Outlook Anywhere Settings

Enter owa.ncl.ac.uk as the server name.

Enable the settings for fast and slow networks

Choose Basic Authentication from the drop down box.

Click OK

Click Next and then Finish

Restart Outlook. As we have changed the authentication settings to basic, you will have to authenticate with your campus user ID (campus\userid) and password whenever you start Outlook.

Outlook will now generate the offline cached copy of your mailbox.
