Some General Basic configuration steps for Windows Phones:
Set-up WiFi:
Scroll right by pressing the righ facing arrow. Scroll down list to "Settings". Select "WiFi" from the list.
The WiFi radio in the handset will be switch on by default. You will see a list of all WiFi networks the handset can "see".
Select "newcastle-university" SSID from the list.
The handset will ask you to Sign in.
Enter your username (eg. nppxx), and enter your password. This is your windows password used when logging into your desktop PC.
Click Done.
The handset will remember your log in ID and password and will connect you automatically to the "newcastle-university" WiFi network when ever it can see it, and your WiFi radio is turned on. (Leaving WiFi turned on when your not using it drains the battery faster).
Email/Calendar/Contacts Syncronisation
From the "Start" Screen, select "Mail setup" (from initial setup, or goto "settings" then "email + accounts" to add another email account)
At the Add an account screen, select Outlook.
Under 'Email Address' enter your "X.X@ncl.ac.uk" email address
Under 'Password' enter your Windows based PC account password
Click "sign in".
The handset checks the mail server but will not find your account and will return with a screen asking for 'Username' and 'Domain'.
Under 'Username' enter your "nXX" login ID, Under 'Domain' enter "campus".
Click "sign in".
At this point you will receive a message "We couldn't find your settings"
Click "advanced".
Under 'Server' enter "owa.ncl.ac.uk"
Click 'show all settings'.
You can give the account a name to describe the account, such as "Work email" to allow you to defferentiate between mail from different email accounts.
You can change the frequency of when the phone checks for new mail, select 'as items iarrive' and the handset checks constantly (increases data usgae and drains battery), or every 15 mins.
'Download email from' allows you to change the length of time to download email for.
Click "sign in". The handset will find your account and start to syncronise items. Contacts appear on the "People" tile, any calendar items will appear on the "Calendar" tile.
