ESS teaching room refurbishments - summer 2010

Projects to fully refurbish 3 teaching rooms and 5 computer clusters were undertaken by the Estates Support Service (ESS) Capital project team during summer 2010.  All rooms underwent major building work and had state of the art audio visual facilities installed.

The RB Green, a 450 seat lecture theatre in the Dental School, incorporates dual HD data projection with all the latest audio visual control technology and end user equipment. The new lectern has an electrically operated rise and fall section to meet DDA requirements.

The Tree cluster in the Stephenson building, as well as being refurbished, has also been extended to accommodate more students  to meet the needs of the two main users.   As well as having new IT equipment installed the cluster will benefit from new and improved audio visual facilities.

The Herschel clusters on the 1st floor have  had similar treatment.  The space has been redesigned as open plan but seperated by the use of colour co-ordinated carpets and furniture to enable multiple teaching to take place.  The desking is of the ISS wave design as used in the KGVI cluster last year, this design has proved to be very popular with the students.

Refurbishments to the Law lecture theatre and Stephenson room T10 have also take place and both have had new AV facilities installed to enable them to become standard with other common user teaching rooms on campus.

The ESS Improvements team were also involved in fully some teaching room refurbishment during the summer vacation.  Lecture Theatres 1 and 6 in King George VI Building were given a makeover and had the AV systems upgraded and improved.

ISS, Audio Visual Services were responsible for putting together the AV specifications for all rooms mentioned above and liaising with various internal and external parties prior to and during the works.

On completion of the main building work and AV installations, we installed and configured teaching PCs and remote management systems.  We then gave the systems a thorough test to ensure all was working in time for the new academic year.

Audio visual facilities in all of the rooms listed above are now supported by our team and are equipped with our standard equipment including TeamMate lecterns, an internal common desktop PC and laptop facilities which are connected to a combination of display devices including LCD displays and data projectors.

We welcome feedback on the AV facilities provided in any of the rooms mentioned above.
