Upgrades/Changing Handset

‌Upgrades are for those who already have a mobile number and wish to change handsets.

You can upgrade to a newer handset once within the 24 month minimum term, or after your minimum term.

Ordering upgrades can be done in 4 easy steps:

 Step 2 icon - Choose Price Plan

If your mobile number is still within original 24 month minimum term (from date of first ordering), submit an internal purchase requisition. You will remain on the original price plan. Changing to the newest price plan would mean "buying out" the rest of your current commitment and restarting a new 24 month minimumterm on the newer price plan.

If your mobile number is outside the original 24 month minimum term:


    • Remain on current price plan (higher call charges)
    • Change to newest price plan (re-start a new 24 month minimum term, lower call charges)

Step 3 icon - Choose Care, Data Bundle, Roaming options

Decide if you require insurance: (note: if you remain on your current price plan and it currently does not have 'Care', you can not add it. Care can only be added if you change to the newest price plan)

'Tirered Care' means your handset is insured. (Recommended for high value handsets**)

  1. Full Cover £5 per month
  • Covers Loss/Stolen/Damage

     2. Damage cover £1.50 per month

  • Damage only

      Excess of £15/£35/£55 applies depending on the handset value. (iPhone may be more)

'Without Care' means your handset is not insured.

When your original handset was ordered, the data bundles at that time offered very poor value comapaired to the newer '500MB bundles'. We will automtically add the 500 MegaByte bundle unless you specifically advise us not to do so on your internal purchase requisition. (If you are a regular international traveller, please see Roaming Device Bundles under the "Roaming" heading for an alternative data bundle)

Decide if you require international roaming, you are asked to circle your choice on the internal purchase requisition. Requesting international roaming to be added will automatically lift the international call bar.

** A note on Care: Care is only avavilable for 36 months and is cancelled by Orange automatically after this period.

Step 4 icon - Submit an order

Submit an internal purchase requisition to Telecoms office to arrange ordering. To help ensure that you provide all the necessary information and reduce the chance of your request being rejected, please use the template IPR below. Delivery timescales from Orange is 72 hours (not including the P2P process).

(Reduce the chance of your order being rejected: Ensure that your internal purchase requisition is signed by your line manager and by the head of school/service. Please do not send us an unsigned word document as it can not be processed. It should be printed, signed using ink and either scanned as a PDF and emailed to it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk)
