Service Description

The wiki service provides a means by which a person or group of persons can add and edit content about a topic or topics in order to collaboratively create a collection of information.

Users

Members of any collaborative group which contains members of Newcastle University. Group members who do not belong to Newcastle University can also get access to the wiki.

Service Hours

24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The ISS “at risk” period is 07:00-09:00 every Tuesday. Further planned maintenance times will be publicised in advance if there will be a disruption to the service.

Level of Service

All wiki pages are backed up on a daily basis. In the event of a significant hardware failure, restoration of the service should be within three working days.

All incidents relating to this service will be handled according to the ISS Incident Management and Major Incident Management processes.

Request Process

To register for a wiki for your group:

  1. Email a request to it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk and include the following details:
  • the Newcastle University Login ID of the single user who will be responsible for the Wiki (including membership, administration and moderation)
  • the purpose for your wiki
  • a name to be used to reference the group

(This will be used to form your group identity on the wiki server as https://wikis.ncl.ac.uk/groupname and so should be short, contain no spaces, as well as being distinct and relevant.)

Requests for any other aspect of the service should be made via the ISS Service Desk on 5999 or it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk.

All requests relating to this service will be handled according to the ISS Request Fulfilment process.

User Responsibility

Users are expected to make use of the documentation before contacting the Service Desk for help.
