Online Assessment and Feedback

Service Description

Online Assessment runs through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in a locked down browser to stop students accessing other resources during the test. Feedback is also produced to both the student and the academic after the exam.

  • Any VLE assessment can be run through OLAF
  • Marking is done automatically for academics
  • Feedback is given to the students on their performance and academics on how well the questions were answered

Users

Any member of teaching staff.

Service Hours

Exams are scheduled through the Exams Office. 

Consultation, advice and guidance: 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday, excluding University closure periods.

Level of Service

During exam periods all PCs in designated IT Service clusters will be working and the VLE will be available.

Feedback on the exams and questions will be given within one month of the end of the exam period.

All incidents relating to this service will be handled according to the Incident Management and Major Incident Management processes.

Request Process

  1. Complete the assessment forms provided by the Exams Office and tick the boxes indicating that an online exam is required.
  2. All requests for use of OLAF are made through the Exams Office; requests cannot be made directly to the IT Service from teaching staff.

Requests for any other aspect of the service should be made via the IT Service Desk on 5999 or it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk.

All requests relating to this service will be handled according to the Request Fulfilment process.

User Responsibility

Instructors must ensure their exams are in the VLE at least two weeks before the exam is due to start. This is so the exam can be checked and tested to ensure it is correct.
