PhD/DBA Training

For PhD training KITE is part of the Newcastle University Business School, which has ESRC recognition for PhD, CASE awards and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), and doctoral training draws on an ESRC recognised inter-departmental Faculty Training Programme.

In addition KITE provides well organised and thorough postgraduate training and supervisory support from within the Centre.

This includes a variety of events and activities involving other KITE colleagues, opportunities to present work in progress within the Centre and later in conference settings. We also hold regular internal ‘workshop’ events where junior and senior staff interact to provide support and encouragement.

Current Opportunities

Interested in doing a PhD or a career in research/academia?

The centre for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise (KITE) invites current Newcastle students to express an interest in becoming a KITE research intern. We are offering four, month long research internships, which are paid at approximately £1500 per month per person pro rata. The internships will be part time or full time and have been designed to augment the research capacity of the centre's academic staff. The internship would not start until after your degree (undergraduate or masters) has ended. The purpose of the internship is to provide a potential bridge following the completion of your degree to starting a PhD or further Research Assistant work, so you will need to demonstrate a serious intent towards pursuing an academic/research career, and be able to demonstrate both high achievement in your degree and a high level of English language proficiency. (It is unlikely that the internship will be sufficient cause to extend a temporary visa). Last year two of the three KITE interns were subsequently successful in being awarded NUBS PhD Scholarships (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/nubs/postgrad/research/) and have now begun their doctoral studies.

At this point the specific nature of the research work has not been set, but you will likely be conducting literature reviews, interviewing, focus groups, survey design/administration and other research related work.

If you are interested and feel sufficiently qualified would you please contact Dr Simon Down (Co-Director of KITE simon.down@ncl.ac.uk) to express an interest sending a two page CV detailing your academic interests and educational achievements, work experience and an indication of your likely degree classification/average grades.
