Joanna's research interests are centred around the personal and professional opportunities and challenges created by technological developments across science, business and the creative industries (in particular music). Current research covers analysis of changing value frameworks and business models across these sectors. Joanna teaches Strategic Marketing to EMBA students and is Senior Tutor for BA Marketing and Management. Her Ph.D studied emergent music industry business models. Joanna is Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Chair of the North East Regional Board of the CIM. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Business Consultants.
Joanna Berry completed her first degree in Law at St Anne’s College, Oxford and became a lawyer in South Africa. On her return to the UK she became involved in the marketing, advertising and interactive entertainment content production industries in London. Having set up and run three businesses, Joanna went on to take her MBA with distinction at Newcastle University Business School, and her Ph.D in May 2011. Joanna was Project Manager for a 1 year, ESRC funded research investigating 'Sustainable Business Models in the Creative Industries'. She was bought out of all academic activities from 2008 - 2010 to run Inkspot Science Ltd, www.inkspot.co, which provides a collaborative online environment where SMEs, research organisations and academic institutions can share, analyse, automate analysis and store their data. Previously Joanna was Academic Director for the Executive MBA Programme, teaching Strategic Marketing, Management Consultancy and Small Business and Entrepreneurship to these students. She has also created a new Masters in Arts, Business and Creativity.
