I use the Centre every day. There's everything here ... even if people want to study Korean they can, no problems, they can get help from the desk ...

Lisa

Normally I come here to use the computers because they  have Chinese Windows, and to process my work in Chinese and print it out ... sometimes I need to find information on the internet, then I come here as well.

It's been extremely useful to practise listening to the language through a wide range of resources ... I even download French radio through the computers, and listen to that, so it’s extremely useful ...

I use it to meet people, to practise speaking my Chinese. It's got quite a lot of Chinese resources ... which are essential, and things I can’t buy on my own as they come from China. I often use some of the Chinese packages to write letters to friends in China, and for my work.

I did science at ‘A’ level, but I’ve always loved languages, so this allows me to continue with languages while I’m studying science. I hope to teach science, but next year I'm teaching English in Thailand, so it’s enabled me to practise my Thai and keep opportunities open to combine science and languages.

I come here whenever I have Korean homework and use listening tapes. When I want to use a Japanese programmes this is the only place I can get them, so I can use the Internet in Japanese and that sort of thing ...

I contacted the Centre and they put me in touch with a Thai girl, who teaches me Thai, and I help her improve her English. We meet once a week for 2 - 3 hours and I ask questions about what I’ve been learning, or just talk about culture as well as the language. It really helps me to learn in a flexible way, and to build up a relationship as wel. We’ve become really close friends through it.

One of my advantages after graduation is that I have knowledge in Business Management and Korean and I can speak English too. I try to act as a bridge between Japan and other countries. Hopefully I’ll use my Korean as well, to do business in Asian countries.

It’s unlike any other part of the University really. It’s not like the library - it's slightly more relaxed. I’d certainly recommend it because of the resources and the good working environment, and the way it’s set out. There are always staff available to help with word-processing and language problems. It’s helped my language-learning a lot , and I couldn’t have done without it.
