Introducing automatic loan renewals for staff

Our new Library Management System brings some changes for loan periods and renewals of library books for staff. Long loan items will now be issued for a period of 4 weeks, but will automatically renew for your convenience.

What is it and how does it work?

The Library system will automatically renew your loans provided your record has no overdue charges, your user record has not expired, or the item has not been requested by another user.
Long Loan items are issued for a period of 4 weeks at a time, but will be automatically renewed for a period of 36 weeks before you have to return them to the Library.
Short Loan items are issued for 1 week at a time, but will be automatically renewed for a period of 7 weeks before you have to return them to the Library.

How will I know if I need to return an item?

If an item has been requested by another user we will send you an email to inform you of the date you need to return it by.

What if the system can’t renew my books?

If your record has been blocked for example if you have a lost book or overdue charge or your card has expired the system will be unable to perform an auto renewal. We will send you a courtesy notice in advance of the due date telling you that we have been unable to renew the item and the date it needs to be returned by.
If you have any Library issues preventing automatic renewal of your books, please visit or contact the Library so we can resolve these as soon as possible.

Can I check what I have out on loan and when it’s due back?

Yes. You can log into Library Search and choose My Account for a list of all items you currently have on loan and their return dates. You can also contact the Library and we will send you an email giving details of all items you have on loan and their return dates.
