Bank Holiday weekend closure
Please be reminded that all Newcastle University Libraries will be closed over the Bank Holiday weekend. We will close at 5:00pm on Friday 24th August and re-open at 9:00am on Tuesday 28th August.

Interruption to Power Supply - Bank Holiday Weekend
During the coming Bank Holiday weekend, power to the Robinson Library will be interrupted as part of the on-going Library refurbishment. Some Library services will be unavailable.

Level 3 entrance area
Furniture and pcs in this area will be moved on Fri 17th August, for re-carpeting and installation of new power and data. The area will be then be closed until the week of 28th Aug.

Maths Aid
Now open 10-4.00, until Thurs Aug 30th, in Room 333 on Level 3 of the Robinson Library

Disruptions in service to Elsevier's SciVerse and ScienceDirect
Elsevier will be carrying out an upgrade to their online services on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August

Disruption to services
Essential maintenance is required by one of our vendors between 20:00 on Saturday 11th August and 02:00 on Sunday 12st August. During this period FindIt, A-Z List, e-Journals and Library Search may become unavailable.

Temporary suspension to Special Collections services
Due to the recent flooding of Level 1 in the Robinson Library, unfortunately Special Collections services have been suspended until further notice. Please note that none of the stock was subject to flood damage.

Book move complete
Books in the Robinson Library are now in one single (Dewey) sequence, with 000-599 on Level 3 and 600-999 on Level 4.

Wednesday 4th July - Service Desk Closure
Due to a library staff event the Service Desk will be closed from 12:00-2:00pm.

The Friends of the University Library invite you to a presentation by Sue Bradley entitled Book Trade Lives and other oral histories on Wednesday 11 July at 6.15pm in the Robinson Library, Room 152.

This summer, the Robinson Library will be undergoing a major refurbishment with building work starting on Monday 18th June.

Too noisy to study?
This service has been suspended until the start of the new academic year. You can still report issues to Library staff during the vacation but please be aware that due to the refurbishment of L3 and L4, and in the cafe, there will be unavoidable noise in the building.

Royal Society of Chemistry E-Books trial
From 15th Nov to 14th Dec we have full access to all the RSC E-Books.

Springer e-Book Trial
We are currently running an e-book trial with the publisher Springer. The trial gives us access to the full-text of almost 20,000 English-language monographs, textbooks, handbooks, atlases and book series published primarily in the scientific, technical and medical subject areas, between 2005-2010.

Open All@Ncl: Receive funding for open access publication
A pilot fund has been established to support researchers in placing their articles in high-profile open access journals.

Robinson Library Hold / Requests
From Tues 21st September you can collect your reserved books even when the service desk is closed. They will be available in the Student Texts Collection area and can be checked-out at the self service unit there. Return them as usual to the check-in units next to the service desk.

New to the Robinson Library Student Text Collection
From 20th Sept you can borrow Student Text items for 4 hours from the time of issue. If you know you need a book for a particular day you can still book it in advance, using the Library catalogue. STC items can also be borrowed overnight.

Library wins Customer Service Excellence Award
The University Library has received the prestigious Customer Service Excellence award for the quality of its services. After winning five Charter Mark awards, the Library has now achieved the government’s new service standard to confirm its reputation as one of the best in the country.

Transfer of Computing Science Library
All the resources from the Computing Science Library, which were housed in the School of Computing Science in Claremont Tower, have now been integrated into the Robinson Library stock.

Wiley Online Library
The Wiley Online Library will be launched on Sunday 8th August. This new resource replaces the Wiley InterScience service.

Self service operation
The Robinson Library will operate as self service from 12.00 - 2.00 on Tuesday 22nd June. Counter and Information Desk services will resume at 2.00.

Improved desktop delivery of inter-library loans
From 14th June we will be using the British Library’s new FileOpen service to provide a more straightforward electronic journal article desktop delivery
