Unlike many academic libraries, Newcastle University Library has access to state-of-the-art off-campus storage facilities, meaning we can keep less-used material for much longer than some other academic libraries.
The facilities have just been refurbished and in total provide us with an additional 29 kilometres of storage space, which are currently housing back-runs of journals and books which haven't been consulted for over 5 years (longer in some subject areas).
Members of the library can visit the Research Reserve to consult items by appointment only between the hours of 10am – 1pm (see contact details below). Items can also be requested for collection at a library or delivered electronically.
The study room is furnished to provide access to the collections housed at the Team valley Research Reserve. As well as study desks for library use, with space for researchers to use laptops.
There is now full wireless access in this area and there are 2 cluster pcs which can be used by anyone with a Campus ID and password.
In addition there is a larger table for map, picture, university archive, current records or archaeological collections study. Please note that archaeological collections may only be accessed by prior arrangement with the curator, Andrew Parkin.
Trolleys of books or journals, or archive boxes, can be brought directly to the desk. For browsing long journal runs, access to the compact shelving can be organised by special arrangement.
Normal daily access is available by appointment only with the Research Reserve Team, Monday – Friday between the hours of 10.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. Access outside of these hours can organised given sufficient notice. The team can be contacted by email either to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone on 0191 208 6986 (at Robinson Library) 0191 4403606 (at Team valley) or Christine Stevens, team manager, can be contacted on 07816146530.
Dukesway may be accessed via the A1 from either Lobley Hill roundabout, via Kingsway, or Low Fell roundabout, via Retail World. The Research Reserve building is on the corner of Dukesway Court, directly opposite Northumbria Fine Foods which lies between Foster Court and Eighth Avenue along Dukesway.
The Team Valley Express bus no. 91 runs once in a morning and once in the evening with a stop directly outside. Other bus services run to nearby Retail World from Gateshead Metro interchange.
