As well as set styles for listing the materials used in your research, there are set ways to refer from the text of your work to the bibliography (a list of your citations).

There are standard methods of doing this for a given subject, and you should consult your department or style manual to find the appropriate method.

When you find out which style is appropriate for the subject you are researching, it is important that you stick to this style throughout your research
