Exhibitions: Conjurations, Inchantments, and Witchcrafts (1)

Introduction

This exhibition draws upon the surprising wealth of materials concerned with the supernatural that lurk within our holdings - items have been coaxed from dark, dusty corners; have sprung from innocent-looking pamphlet boxes; and have lain in wait on long-forgotten trolleys.

And quickly opening a vein in her left Arm she proceeded to sprinkle a portion of her Blood upon the hideous object then muttering a POWERFUL INCANTATION, the Corpse became entirely subservient to her will &c.

In the course of this project, Special Collections staff have endured chills in the store room, books that mysteriously disappeared from the Reading Room shelves overnight, and have quaked at the Library's noises.

The display looks at the frightening, the delightful, the intriguing and the sinister aspects of the supernatural: The Special Collections exhibition area is located on level 2 of the Robinson Library, as you walk towards the Barn computer cluster.
