The Robinson Library mounted an exhibition in June/July 1999 to celebrate the life and work of Gertrude Bell, one of the most notable archaeologists, diplomats and travellers of the early part of this century.

The exhibition, on Level 2 of the Robinson Library, comprised a major display which was opened in the University in 1994 before its first major showing in Newcastle City Library.
There was also be a rare opportunity to view some of the Library's extensive collections of Bell's writings and other materials about her and her life.
