Copyright and acknowledgements

Copyright

Special Collections staff can advise on whether an item remains in copyright, and whether it is covered by the 'fair dealing' agreement under copyright law. The onus is on users to obtain copyright permissions, where necessary.

Please note that copies of material in copyright are made solely for the purpose of private study unless agreed with the copyright holder. Readers can make no further use of copied material without first seeking the permission of the copyright holder, which may be Newcastle University itself.

Reproduction

For research or private study, a charge will only be made for the cost of copying. 

Where material is out of copyright or permissions have been obtained, for publication and other commercial purposes, reproduction fees will be charged in addition to current scanning/photography costs. For University publications/textbooks, reproduction fees may be waived on application to the Special Collections and Archives Librarian.

  • 1 programme, 1 transmission, 1 country/EU - £60
  • 1 programme, 1 transmission (world) - £100
  • 1 programme, unlimited use (multiple transmission, world) - £120

Film (Rates below are for 1st minute, thereafter charged at 50%)

  • 1 programme, 1 transmission, 1 country/EU - £60
  • 1 programme, 1 transmission (world) - £150
  • 1 programme, unlimited use (multiple transmission, world) - £300
DVD/CD-ROM
  • 1 programme, 1 transmission, 1 country/EU - £60
  • 1 programme, 1 transmission (world) - £100
  • 1 programme, unlimited use (multiple transmission, world) - £150
Internet

Images required for Internet use are charged at £100. Requests for images to be used on Newcastle University websites will be charged only at the current scanning/photography rate.

Acknowledgement

Special Collections materials which are subsequently reproduced should be acknowledged in the form:

Robinson Library Special Collections, Newcastle University, [insert reference] 

You should also state that the material has been used:  "… by permission of the Librarian, Robinson Library, Newcastle University".
