Daguerreotypes (Contact Special Collections for details)
Hugh Lee Pattinson's (1796-1858) daguerreotypes date from 1840. Among them are five of the Niagara Falls, viewed from the Canadian side, and these are the first known photographic images of the Falls or, indeed, (with a sixth daguerreotype of the nearby Clifton Hotel), of any scene in Canada. Two others are of scenes in Rome.
