Photocopying
Special Collections items are issued with red slips informing users that
the items must not be photocopied.
Opening a book flat places the spine under pressure, there may be loose or
damaged pages, a fragile binding, or other good reasons why the item needs
to be protected.
Photocopying may be carried out By Special Collections Staff Only,
subject to copyright, and at the discretion of the Special Collections Librarian.
To request photocopying, please print a copy of the copyright declaration form, and when completed and signed, return it by post to the address given here. Printed copyright declaration forms are available from the Special Collections Reading Room.
When you sign the form, you are making a copyright declaration agreeing
that the material will only be used for non-commercial purposes. These forms
are available from the Reading Room.
We are permitted to copy up to 30 pages but please remember that permission
may be denied due to the physical condition of the item. Both A4 and A3 copying
cost 20p per sheet.
We aim to satisfy all photocopy requests within 1 week. Users will be informed
when their requests have been satisfied. If you choose to collect photocopying
in person, payment can be made on collection from the Reading Room.
If you choose to have copies posted to you, we require payment in advance:
- Payment by cheque - there is a minimum charge of £2 plus postage. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Newcastle University’.
- Payment by credit card - there is a minimum charge of £5
