Statutory Instruments are government orders or regulations
made by a Minister under the authority of a specific
Act
of Parliament. They are numbered according to the
calendar year and a new sequence begins annually. Consequently
it is necessary to cite both the year and the serial
number when referring to them. Statutory Instruments
of each year are subsequently published in bound volumes
arranged numerically. An annual index is contained
in the last of each year's volumes. The Law
Library has a complete set
of Statutory Instruments from 1945 shelved at STA-340
and the Main Library has a set of unbound
Statutory Instruments from 1975 located at Statutory
Instruments. Statutory instruments are indexed in `Guide
to Government Orders`, located in the Law Library at
STA 340, alphabetically by subject. Statutory Instruments
do not appear in the Stationery
Office monthly and
annual catalogues but in separate monthly and annual
Lists of Statutory Instruments. Copies of these lists
are located in the Main Library at Statutory Instruments
and in the Law
Library at STA 340. The full text of
Statutory Instruments from 1987 is available from the
UK Parliament Web pages, http://www.hmso.gov.uk/stat.htm.
