Royal Commissions
These are ad hoc advisory bodies appointed to investigate
and report on matters upon which new legislation may
be desirable. They are appointed by Royal Warrant and
their reports are addressed to the Queen. Many such
reports are published as Command
Papers . These will
be located in our Parliamentary
Papers collection.
Publications of Royal Commissions not issued as Command
Papers are catalogued individually and located in the
main Dewey sequence. Publications of the Royal Commission
on Historical Manuscripts are located at State Papers
90 on Level 1. Particulars of current Royal Commissions
are given in the Civil Service Year Book (QuickRef
QR GOVT 350.1 CIV, on Level 2). See also Sectional
List no. 59 `Royal Commissions, 1937-1976`.
