Many statistics and guides to statistics are published
by government departments. The most useful single compilation
of statistics is the Annual Abstract of Statistics which
covers a wide range of statistics for the past ten years
and has an index giving more detailed sources of statistics.
The Library has a collection of official statistics at
the location GPS. Statistical compilations published
as Parliamentary Papers are not included in this section
unless the Library has duplicate copies of them. There
are guides to statistical sources on the shelves next
to the government publications card catalogue, e.g. Central
Statistical Office `Guide to Official Statistics`, J.M.
Harvey's `Sources of Statistics` and the Interdepartmental
Committee on Social and Economic Research series `Guide
to Official Sources'.
Located in the GPS sequence at GPS-CEN
is the Library's collection of Census material, including
Census of
Population, Census of Production and Census of Distribution,
all of which are reference only.
