Searching for articles in journals

  • Use the collections of full-text electronic journals
  • To find a particular journal title click here
  • Check the years and volumes that are available and the access details before you click on Go.
  • Use the subject databases which index journal articles. Go to Subject Information and Select Resources for your subject to select a particular database.
  • Use FIND IT to link to full-text journal articles from the databases.
  • Most databases can be accessed from PCs across the Campus. Others are only available in the Library.
  • You may need to ask for a username and password.
  • A relevant journal article will list further references to read.
  • Review articles are useful as they summarise research in a particular area and include long lists of references for further reading.
  • You will often find abstracts or summaries of the article.
  • Read the abstract carefully:
    • is the item really what you are looking for?
    • does the abstract itself give you the information you need?
    • After careful reading, you should be left with a shorter list of references.
  • Use printed indexes and abstracts to find older material that is not indexed in the electronic databases.
