Essays, projects, theses and dissertations should be carefully planned from the outset. A well written and detailed plan will help ensure that important areas aren't overlooked and will help you manage your time more effectively.
Stage 1
- get to know the outline of your subject
- decide on the scope and any limits such as the time period
- think of key words to use when searching reference books or databases
- plan of work
- reading of background material
Stage 2
- search for, obtain and read relevant material
- make notes
- revise your plan
- prepare your bibliography
Stage 3
- plan the contents
- plan the physical layout
- prepare diagrams and illustrations
- check the required style of references and bibliography
Stage 4
- write your final version
- organise printing and binding, where necessary
