We are always pleased when people think of us when they wish to dispose of unwanted books. However, we are a working medical, dental and biosciences library and only keep the latest edition of texts on the shelves.
We do, however have a link with a medical school in Namibia and will happily take medical books which are less than 7 years old and send them on.
If you would like to donate books, please contact us on medliaison@ncl.ac.uk or 0191 222 7550. It is really helpful if you can list the books, giving publication details.
If you are a member of the University and want to dispose of books, please refer to the University recycling page for books here.
Alternatively:
- The Oxfam shop on the corner of St Thomas Street in Newcastle will also accept books for resale in their bookstores - ring them to check before taking books there.
- Oxfam in Jesmond has just opened a specialist book shop on St George's Terrace (they have a book deposit bin opposite).
- Freecycle (or Freegle) is another way of disposing of unwanted books and other items - just join your local group and offer the books - there is nearly always someone who will come and collect them from you! See http://www.uk.freecycle.org/
