The Centre welcomes applications from PhD students based at other universities - in the UK and elsewhere - to spend time at Newcastle in support of their doctoral study. It may be that you are planning field work in the north east of England, or looking to access particular library holdings, or would like to work with one of the Centre's leading academics.
You can find out more about the research and postgraduate activities in the Centre on our website, to identify research areas and academic staff related to your own. The Centre has a number of research clusters which organise events - more or less formal - to support both staff and postgraduates, and we teach a range of postgraduate programmes in our areas of expertise.
If you would like to spend some time in the Centre, then please simply get in touch with the most appropriate member of staff to discuss possibilities. If you are not sure who might best support your research, please contact CRiLLS who will be able to direct you to the relevant colleagues for further information.
If you wish to apply then please complete the appropriate Visiting Postgraduate form. Once we have agreed to your visit in principle, all visiting students must register as occasional students and apply online. Be sure to note, in the section on Programme of Study, that you are applying for 'occasional student' status as you apply.
Occasional students must pay fees of £120 per month full-time (£60 per month part-time). On paying these fees, you will be entitled to:
You will be a full member of the research Centre and therefore receive, on a weekly basis, all information about its activities.
You will not receive an award or credit from Newcastle University for your studies and the normal maximum length for visiting students is 12 months.
Applicants for occasional student status must normally meet our standard entry requirements. This means all applicants must hold at least an upper-second-class Honours degree and/or a Master's degree in a relevant subject. Applicants whose first language is not English would require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 575 (paper based) or 233 (computer-based), or equivalent.
