Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership (NBDTP)
Newcastle University offers PhD studentships in linguistics from October 2017 as part of the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership. Studentships include:
- a fee waiver and a maintenance grant
- access to a research training grant to fund the costs of study abroad conference attendance or fieldwork
- support to incorporate short-term placements
Supervision is available across a wide range of linguistic topics, from formal syntax and phonology through more applied areas such as language acquisition and dialectology. To find out more about linguistics topics check our Research areas.
There is no quota for studentships in linguistics; applicants compete against each other across the whole range of arts and humanities.

ESRC Northern Ireland/North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership PhD Studentships in Linguistics and Language Sciences
NINE DTP is a new collaboration between seven universities. Studentships in linguistics and language sciences are available in the following areas:
- applied linguistics
- clinical linguistics
- language acquisition/bilingualism
