Postgraduate Study

A vibrant postgraduate community in linguistics and language sciences Our taught programmes are built on our expertise from a wide range of theoretical and applied areas. Research programmes are varied, offering supervised research and integrated PhD programmes.

Our brochure 'Postgraduate Opportunities' is available to download. For details of how to apply and details of all our programmes see the University's on-line prospectus.

Students benefit from our Graduate School who provide training in professional and key skills, and host many postgraduate events. In addition to the Graduate School's training programme CRiLLS co-ordinates additional workshops covering methodological skills and generic training such as preparing conference abstracts and viva preparation

We also support our students through postgraduate facilities including:

  • dedicated offices with computing facilities,
  • microfilm collections,
  • computer-assisted language analysis laboratory and phonetics labratory,
  • TESOL library,
  • on-site speech and language therapy clinics,
  • audio-visual room and education resource centre.

Supervision is provided for projects that span academic schools and sub-disciplines, ensuring the best fit between graduate students' interests and the expertise of supervising staff.

Our Linguistics Society brings together undergraduate and postgraduate students and CRiLLS staff through a variety of activities.

Students also have the benefit of having any issues or concerns raised at the CRiLLS executive meetings by contacting their PG representative - Claire Childs
