LTDS Training - Workshops and Webinars

The Learning and Teaching Development Service run a variety of different training sessions throughout the year. Please choose from the list below.

Blackboard

Blackboard is Newcastle University's institutionally supported Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Blackboard is a web-based application accessible 24/7 at any location with an internet connection. A Blackboard module is a self-contained space to which you can add a multitude of content.

Workshops

Turnitin

Turnitin is a software program which searches a huge database of journals, past student work and much of the internet to find strings of text which match with a piece of student work. When a student submits a piece of work to Turnitin a report showing these matches is produced. This can then be assessed to see if the matches are common phrases, correctly referenced, or not correctly referenced and require follow-up with the student.

Webinars

Online Assessment

The Online Assessment and Feedback (OLAF) Service enables staff to run secure online exams using Blackboard. OLAF exams are taken by students in a university computer cluster. The computers are locked down so that students cannot access any other materials either online or in their university filespace during the exam.

WebPA

WebPA is an online tool available through Blackboard that provides a mechanism to peer assess group work. Each group member completes an online form grading the contribution of the members of their group. WebPA uses this to determine individual marks.

Workshops

ReCap

ReCap is Newcastle University's institutionally supported lecture and event-recording service. It allows audio and visual material, including the presenters' voice, presentation slides and visualised documents, to be recorded and published online in an automated, easy-to-use process.

Workshops

Teaching Room Response Systems (aka Student Response Systems)

Teaching Room Response Systems can be used in large teaching enviroments to increase engagement, obtain student opinion and to check learning progress. The University currently has two centrally supported systems - TurningPoint (students respond using 'clickers') and OMBEA (students respond using their own devices)

Workshops

ePortfolio

ePortfolio is an online portfolio of students' work and achievements. Designed to support reflective learning, ePortfolio helps students see the clear link between what they are learning, how they have learnt it, and why it has been useful.
