Tyneside football legend Charlie Crowe threw his weight behind research into Alzheimer's disease. He and his family described the effects of Alzheimer’s when they launched a £1.5 million appeal to fund a new scanner to help speed research into the condition at Newcastle University.
Charlie passed away in February 2010. He was the longest surviving member of the 1950’s triple FA Cup winning Newcastle United team. Charlie Crowe was rightly a hero on Tyneside.
Until 2008 he was speaking at meetings and active as a staunch supporter of NUFC. Alzheimer’s disease took its toll and his life changed. He wanted to support research into his condition to help find a cure.
