We have said farewell to our old reseach vessel 'Bernicia', the most recent in a line of vessels associated with the University dating back to 1911. She has been sold as a going concern and is now berthed in the Netherlands.
The old Bernicia is to be replaced with an exciting and innovative new boat designed by a team from the School of Marine Science and Technology. The new research vessel exploits a unique deep-vee catamaran concept, pioneered and developed within the department and introduces many new cutting edge features.
