Towing Tank

Overview

The MAST towing tank, which is 37 m long, 3.70 m wide and 1.25 m deep, is used mainly for calm water and wave resistance experiments, and seakeeping experiments. Models are towed using a monorail carriage system that has a maximum speed of 3 m/s in its normal mode. The tank is equipped with wavemakers that can be used to generate regular waves of up to 0.12 m in height and wave periods in the range of 0.5 to 2 seconds. It is also set up to generate long crested random seas using a variety of wave spectra.
