Dr Alan J Murphy, from the School of Marine Science and Technology explains the Clean North Sea Shipping project.CLEAN NORTH SEA SHIPPING (CNSS): Competitive Marine Transport Services AND Reduction of Exhaust Gas Emissions From Shipping – a North Sea Model
CNSS focuses on poisonous emissions and greenhouse gas reduction from ships, using studies to reveal the status
of air quality in ports and surrounding areas. The partnership of CNSS (ports, business, regions, public authorities, NGOs, research institutes) are achieving this by creating transparency on cost-efficient technology solutions and developing and improving the introduction of successful air quality programs.
The present challenge is to develop and implement environmentally friendly, cost-effective concepts and practical solutions for reduced exhaust gas emissions from ships and contribute recommendations for the development of future standards and regulations.
