Could you design an oil rig or process plant?
Being a marine technologist involves finding solutions to some very tough problems. It is demanding enough to construct a 14,000 tonne self-contained process plant, for example. Now imagine you have to install it 100 miles offshore! That’s the kind of challenge faced by marine technologists every day.
You should therefore be a good analytical thinker and able to use mathematics as a tool in design. You need to have a high level of proficiency in mathematics, but you also need a creative and imaginative frame of mind. The best ideas are sometimes the least obvious ones. If you have all these attributes and like a challenge, then you would probably make a good marine technologist.
Do you enjoy working with other people?
