2012 SET Award - Design of a walking skid for underwater robot
Recently, Mr Raymond Si one of the MAST’s undergraduate in his final year at Newcastle University Singapore campus was shortlisted in 2012 SET Awards on the project entitled “Design of a walking skid for underwater robot” supervised by Dr Cheng Siong Chin. There were close to 500 entries and it was an achievement to have reached the final three in the Maritime Technology category despite facing a stiff competition from other maritime universities in Europe. With support from his supervisor and Professor Ehsan Mesbahi, he had also submitted a paper entitled “Prototype Design, Simulation and Robot-in-the-Loop Testing of an Adaptable Walking-Skid for a Seabed ROV” to an international journal.
Supported by Industry, and leading scientific and technical institutions (such as BP, AirBus, AWE, Lloyd's Register Educational Trust, Shell, RINA and IMarEST), SET Awards (Science, Engineering & Technology Student of the Year) are multidisciplinary to reflect the wide range of degrees our universities have to offer. The SET awards provide a showcase for educational excellence by publicly recognising the exceptional achievements of both students and universities.
