Informed by our 2007 market study*of the coastal management sector and business advisors, we see an increasing demand for graduates who are able to combine a multidisciplinary skills-base with business aptitude in the ever expanding environmental sector. IMEC will offer this by combining increased understanding of the coastal-marine environment (e.g. coastal systems, fisheries), with practical transferable experience (e.g. project management, business enterprise, coastal governance, flood risk, renewable energy planning); culminating in the opportunity to plan and execute projects in conjunction with regional leading consultancy firms.
• Business-led projects replace academic research projects.
• Internships available with regional agencies/companies.
• An array of experienced teachers from industry and academia.
We aim to provide exceptional training for early-career professionals who wish to specialise in the marine sector or branch out into this growing consultancy arena. We seek maturity, motivation and dedication and usually require a relevant first degree and appropriate work experience.
This is a one-year programme with September-April devoted to taught modules and project preparation (120 credits) and May to early September reserved for marine consultancy projects (60 credits). Projects conclude with assessed reports and presentations to a panel including business partners.
What are the career opportunities?
Working alongside consultancies, we aim to provide a unique gateway to the rapidly expanding marine consultancy business for those seeking to develop careers with a national or international focus.
