Research Facilities
Research facilities in the School of Marine Science and Technology include:
- The Research Vessel, The Princess Royal - situated at Blyth providing facilities for both marine biologists and marine technologists.
- The Dove Marine Laboratory - situated on the coast at Cullercoats providing facilities for marine biologists.
- Towing Tank - a 37 metre towing tank used for model experiments related to the performance of ships and other marine vehicles.
- Wind Wave Current (WWC) Tank - for testing small scale models for renewable energy devices.
- Emerson Cavitation Tunnel - for testing models of ship propellers and other propulsion devices.
- The Jones Laboratory - for marine engineering teaching, consultancy and research.
- Marine Technology Special Collection a unique resource of historical documents from the shipbuilding, shiprepairing, shipbreaking, and marine engineering industries.
