Methane production by anaerobic digestion of macroalgae (seaweed) is the most promising near-to-market algae bioenergy option. The use of seaweed as feedstock has not been sufficiently optimised or indeed convincingly demonstrated to perform stably and reliably at scale over extended periods of reactor operation. This programme will optimise the anaerobic digestion process using seaweed as feedstock and demonstrate that sustained, high content methane production is achievable.
